After Iron, Aluminum is now the second most widely used metal in the world. Popular for its low density, low weight, high strength, superior malleability, easy machining, excellent corrosion resistance and good thermal and electrical conductivity, Aluminum creates a very attractive component for end users. Because of these characteristics, it is very important that the geometry of tools used to cut it must be specially designed for use in Aluminum. The edges of the end mills must be very sharp. The cutting tool faces must be highly polished so chips can evacuate efficiently in order to prevent them from bonding to the tool. The helixes are dictated by the type of Aluminum Alloy being cut.
